The Ankou: The Enforcer of Limbo
As the characters attempt to leave their purgatory-like existence, they encounter resistance from an entity rooted in Breton folklore: the Ankou.
- The Ankou ensures that souls remain in limbo until they are ready to move on.
- It prevents characters from bypassing their trials, adding a layer of tension to their escape attempts.
What Are the Trials?
Each character faces unique trials that they must overcome to progress to the afterlife:
- Boyd’s Trial: Accepting he cannot save everyone.
- Tabitha’s Trial: Protecting the children.
- The Final Trial: The group must come together to complete a ritual, as depicted in the cave drawings.
The cave drawings, read right to left, show the Ankou watching over the group as they complete a ritual to release the “river of time.” This ritual will allow the characters to cross the barrier holding them in limbo.
